Working Together to Overcome Climate Change Challenges

One thread unites each participating Nation in the ICCC—the desire to create a vibrant and powerful mosaic of support, mentorship, and shared resources. Our coalition will enable member Nations to overcome climate change challenges with strength and grace, informed by traditional knowledge and management practices and supported by advocacy at all levels of government.

ICCC GOALS

Adaptation & Planning Together

  • Work together to manage and adapt to the changing climate in their respective territories.
     

  • Share best practices and lessons learned and mentor and encourage other member Nations.
     

  • Coordinate efforts to influence governments at all levels to consider climate adaptation & UNDRIP principles in all legislation and to fund climate adaptation efforts in the member Nations adequately.
     

  • Incorporate traditional Indigenous knowledge and practice gained over millennia to new ways of living with the changing climate.
     

  • To highlight the impacts on coastal communities from climate changes;
     

  • To provide support for communities within the coalition for adaptation planning and activities;
     

  • To seek financial support for adaptation planning and activities;
     

  • To realize economies of scale related to adaptation planning and equipping;
     

  • To lobby government and industry to make wise choices related to climate and the welfare of Indigenous communities and;
     

  • To support the well-being of Indigenous communities along the BC Coast, throughout BC, Canada, and beyond, particularly related to climate adaptation.
